Rainbows & Unicorns

19 Aug

THE CLIENT

I co-founded and co-admin an online support group for parents who have experienced reproductive trauma. I came up with the name “Rainbows & Unicorns” to reflect the children who joined their families after a struggle. I thought if a “rainbow” is a baby born after pregnancy loss, then a baby born after infertility must be a “unicorn.” ☺

THE MEMO

To create an online brave space for people to discuss the triumphs and challenges of parenting after reproductive trauma.

Reproductive trauma includes:
pregnancy loss, infant loss, infertility, birth trauma,
prenatal or postpartum depression or anxiety;
the grief or PTSD pertaining to these experiences;
as well as LGBTQIA+ parents, single parents by choice,
and anyone else who needed outside help to create their families.

THE WORK

I created graphics for the online space; co-authored the guidelines for membership; and I am an active administrator of the group.

A CHALLENGE

Ensuring that all of our members (who span multiple continents) feel included. Sometimes this means reminding people of our guidelines; sometimes it means that we admins take on feedback.
