Lauren Cross (she/her) writes about reproductive loss and bereavement. Her writing helps her make sense of grief, deepen human connection, laugh at the absurdity of life, and discover new rituals, meaning, and beauty in unexpected places.
GRIEF TRAVEL WRITING
Lauren’s forthcoming memoir, MOTHER NURTURE, is about losing family and finding it again, as experienced through healing intergenerational trauma and egg donation. Excerpts have been published in half a dozen anthologies including SHAKING THE TREE vols. 4, 5, and 7 (2022 and 2023) and THREE MINUS ONE (She Writes Press, 2015).
Lauren is also currently writing a second memoir about the death of her father during the pandemic. In February 2023 she performed an excerpt for So Say We All’s VAMP night in San Diego.
Other essays have been published in the San Diego Union-Tribune and The San Diego Decameron Project. In 2017, her blog, On Fecund Thought, was a finalist for the Best Blog Award by RESOLVE, the National Infertility Association. Lauren also content-edited the groundbreaking book, LET’S TALK ABOUT EGG DONATION.
Before she became a reproductive warrior, Lauren was a contributing writer to two New York-based magazined: she wrote bar and boutique reviews for PAPER and interviewed artists Neilah Myers and Lily Ludlow for TOKION.
ADVOCACY + ACTIVISM
Advocacy work includes sharing her story on Vogue and two podcasts; co-founding a peer-led Facebook support group for parenting after reproductive trauma; serving as an advisory board member of and mentor through Parents Via Egg Donation (PVED); and fighting for reproductive justice and inclusion, including transparency in donor conception.
MEDIA
When she’s not writing, Lauren works as a freelance graphic designer for creative individuals, small businesses, nonprofits, and socially conscious organizations. She’s a sucker for white space, stripes, and muted colour combinations.
Previously, Lauren’s background was in the performing arts, broadcast media, and educational nonprofits. She worked for two of the U.S.’s most beloved organizations, PBS (WNET) and Sesame Workshop, where her colleagues consistently recognized her as an excellent two-way communicator with a proven track record of forming outstanding working relationships in multicultural organizations.

Originally from London and southern Spain, Lauren is a triple citizen of the US, the UK, and Ireland (EU). After graduating with a B.A. (Hons.) in Spanish with French from University College London (UCL), she moved to the States to be closer to the man who would later become her husband. They’ve lived together in Paris, London, and New York, and now San Diego with their three children—the most wondrous little creatures her heart has ever known.

In her free time, Lauren enjoys laughing with her friends and family (preferably at the beach), reading, painting, cooking and eating delicious food, practicing Tai Chi/mindfulness, rearranging furniture, listening to music, and finding her next favorite pairs of skinny jeans and gold shoes.
