Why Blood Donation is Important
When I gave birth to my first child, I hemorrhaged. I lost 66% of my blood volume and wouldn’t be alive today had eight people not donated their blood.
I can’t donate blood in the U.S. (my time in the U.K. disqualifies me) — but I can encourage others (you!) to donate theirs (yours!). Several times a year, I visit the San Diego Blood Bank to give a presentation about how donated blood saved my life.
I had the honor of presenting to the Board in 2017; and in 2019, I appeared on camera (above) for a Mother’s Day campaign.

Blood donation is important because it saves lives—it saved mine. I’m grateful to my donors because I hemorrhaged when I gave birth to my daughter. And I had a team of fantastic doctors, but all of their medical expertise would have meant nothing had eight people not stepped forward to donate their blood—to me! I’m here today because of my donors; and I’m here today to ask you to donate your blood.
